InTheNightmare,directorRodneyAscher(Room237)hasdonejustthat.Thefilmexplorestheconditioncommonlyreferredtoas“sleepparalysis.”That’saconditionwheresomeoneisinbed,buttotallyphysicallyimmobilized.Somewhosufferfromthecondition–includingtheeightsubjectsinthisdocumentary–feeltheyarevisitedbysomethingevilduringtheseperiods.Ascherletsthesesubjectstelltheirstories,thenwewatchthemplayoutonscreen.It’sabsolutelyhorrifying,ifnotwhollyrewarding.
